It’s NOT too Late!
It’s a grey blustery day outside letting us here in the Midwest know that autumn is here. Although spring has past and summer leaves are waving sunset goodbyes, there are still things that you can plantin the garden, and here they are:
Beets
Corn salad
Leaf lettuce
Radish
Spinach
Turnips
Garlic
This weekend will be the last few days that you may be successful in planting beets, lettuce, radish and spinach so best to get them in quickly!
In regard to harvest, remember that even if your peas are not yet producing pods, the leaves and stems make a lovely addition to salads, and root veggies can be stored in placed for most of the winter with a good covering of straw.
Be sure to look for Garden the City 2012 (GtC2012) updates and happenings around Bloomington. I am very excited to take My Edible Eden into uncharted territory by including a yearly community sponsored food security/gardening project beginning with GtC2012. There will be opportunities for you to be involved in this project, so keep an eye out for updates, and Happy Gardening!
Smiles,
jami
